The origin of the Faculty of Engineering, which constitutes the core of our university, is the Mining Engineering School established in 1924. This institution passed through the stages of Mining Vocational and Sergeant Major School, Mining Technical School, Academy of Engineering and Architecture, respectively, and was affiliated to the Rectorate of Hacettepe University with Law No. 2809 and named Zonguldak Faculty of Engineering, and with the Additional Article 9 of Law No. 3837, which entered into force after being published in the Official Gazette dated 11.07.1992 and numbered 21281, “Zonguldak Karaelmas University” and “Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences” were established. However, the name of the University was changed to Bülent Ecevit University on April 11, 2012 and later changed to “Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University” based on Article 6 of the Basic Law No. 7141 published in the Official Gazette dated 18.8.2018 and numbered 30425.
